When Should I Book a Newborn Photoshoot in Llanelli?
If you're expecting a baby and thinking about booking a newborn photoshoot, one of the questions I hear most often is:
"When should I actually book my newborn photoshoot?"
The short answer is: as early as you can — ideally while you're still pregnant.
You don't need to know your baby's exact arrival date, and you don't need to have everything organised before your little one arrives. In fact, booking during pregnancy means you can relax knowing your newborn photography session is already arranged.
If you're looking for a newborn photographer in Llanelli, here's everything you need to know about when to book and what happens if your baby decides to arrive earlier or later than expected.

When is the best time to book a newborn photoshoot?
I recommend booking your newborn photography session during your pregnancy, ideally sometime in your second or early third trimester.
You don't need to wait until you know exactly when your baby will arrive. Your due date gives us a starting point, and once your baby is born, we can confirm the exact date for your session.
Newborn photography is one of those things that's very easy to put off when you're preparing for a baby.
There are hospital bags to pack, appointments to attend, nursery items to buy and a million little things to think about.
Then suddenly your baby is here.
That's why I always recommend getting your newborn photoshoot booked before those final weeks of pregnancy. It's one less thing to think about once you're in the newborn bubble.
Why should I book my newborn photoshoot before my baby arrives?
1. You don't have to worry about finding a photographer afterwards
The first few weeks with a new baby can feel like a complete blur.
You're feeding, changing nappies, trying to sleep whenever you can and getting used to life as a family.
The last thing you want to be doing is frantically searching Google for a newborn photographer in Llanelli when you're already exhausted.
By booking during pregnancy, your session is already in the diary.
2. You can choose the photographer you really want
Newborn photographers can have limited availability, particularly during busy periods of the year.
Booking in advance gives you the best chance of securing a date with the photographer whose style you love.
If you've spent time looking through newborn photographs and found a photographer whose work makes you think, "That's exactly what I want," I'd recommend getting in touch rather than waiting until your baby has arrived.
3. You can ask all your questions before you're sleep deprived!
This one might sound obvious, but it's worth mentioning.
Before your baby arrives, you have time to chat through the session, ask questions and understand exactly what to expect.
Once you've had a newborn baby, even remembering what day it is can sometimes feel like an achievement!
I want your newborn photography experience to feel relaxed and enjoyable, not like another thing on your to-do list.

How old should my baby be for a newborn photoshoot?
Most newborn photography sessions take place during the first couple of weeks after birth, when babies are still very sleepy and new.
However, there isn't a magic cut-off date.
Every baby is different, and some babies are sleepier than others. Some love being wrapped up and snuggled, while others have very definite opinions about what they're prepared to do!
My approach is relaxed and baby-led. We don't rush your baby or expect them to behave in a particular way just to get a photograph.
The most important thing is that your baby is comfortable, settled and safe.
What if my baby arrives early or late?
Don't worry — this is completely normal.
Your due date is an estimate, not a deadline.
When you book your newborn photoshoot, we'll use your expected due date to provisionally plan your session. Once your baby arrives, simply let me know and we'll arrange the best date based on their arrival.
Babies don't tend to follow calendars particularly well!
So if your baby arrives a couple of weeks early or decides to keep you waiting, there's no need to panic.

What if my baby is older than two weeks?
Please don't assume you've missed your opportunity.
While the first couple of weeks can be lovely for those very sleepy, curled-up newborn photographs, beautiful newborn photographs can be created with older babies too.
Your baby's personality is changing every day, and there is something incredibly special about photographing those early weeks whatever stage you're at.
If your baby has already arrived and you're wondering whether it's too late, get in touch anyway.
I'll let you know what options we have available.
Can I book a newborn photoshoot after my baby is born?
Yes!
If you've already had your baby and haven't booked a newborn session yet, don't worry.
I'll always recommend getting in touch as soon as possible so we can look at my availability.
I know that sometimes you simply don't feel ready to think about photographs during pregnancy. And sometimes life with a new baby doesn't go quite according to plan.
There is no judgement here.
If you've found me a little later than planned, send me an enquiry and we'll see what we can do.
What happens when I book my newborn photography session?
When you book your newborn photoshoot with me, I'll take care of the planning with you.
We'll talk about your session, answer any questions you have and make sure you know what to expect.
My newborn sessions are designed to be relaxed, calm and baby-led.
You don't need to worry about whether your baby will sleep.
You don't need to have a perfectly behaved baby.
And you definitely don't need to know how to pose!
I'll guide you through the session while allowing plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, nappy changes and settling your baby.
After all, you're bringing your brand-new baby to me — not a professional model!
When should I book my newborn photoshoot in Llanelli?
If you're currently pregnant and know you'd like newborn photographs, I'd recommend getting in touch now rather than waiting until your baby arrives.
Booking during pregnancy gives you peace of mind, gives us time to plan your session and means you can enjoy those final weeks knowing this special moment has already been taken care of.
I photograph newborns in my studio in Llanelli, South Wales, and welcome families from Llanelli, Swansea and surrounding areas.
Your baby's tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, little toes and the way they fit so perfectly into your arms won't last forever.
The newborn stage is fleeting.
Photographs give you a way to remember it.
